Adventurer Insights: A Conversation with Artificial Intelligence A.I. (ChatGPT)

ChatGPT is the new artificial intelligence chatbot which has blown up in the last few months. The program answers questions in a human-like style and can complete requests such as; write a poem, produce programming code, or even write an entire blog…

The future of this technology and its role in society is unclear but seems certain to be impactful.

I decided to put the machine-learning robot to the test and find out its take on some of my big questions on the topic of adventure! Despite being an unconscious entity which pulls from datasets and learnt patterns, the answers ChatGPT gave are strikingly profound and insightful. Much of my own thought comes through in the questions, but I was impressed with the responses I was given.

Read the conversation below and let me know what you think of ChatGPT!

Question: What does adventure mean to you?

Question: Why is it important that people peruse these activities?

Question: That is really interesting. In a world which faces devastating climate, humanitarian and social crises, what would you say to the people who worry that adventure is a purely selfish endeavour?

Question: That is a great answer. What would you say to people who find it difficult to break out of their comfort bubble and begin a new adventure?

Question: Wow another great answer! On the other side of the spectrum, what would your advice be to those people who have a burning and insatiable drive for adventure and new experiences?

Question: Points 1, 2 and 5 are hugely important. However, lets focus on points 3 and 4. Many adventurers speak of this never-ending search for fulfilment. These people always seek out the next adventure, hoping this will bring them whatever they are seeking. This often leads to significant lows which accompany the bad. What do you think about these people and what would your advice be to them?

Question: What are your thoughts on “peak-bagging” and “ticking boxes” when it comes to adventure? For example, many people wish to climb Mount Everest because it is the tallest mountain in the world. However, considering there are thousands of other difficult and interesting climbs in the world, is this not an ego boosting activity in order to sell a narrative of being great?

Question: How do you think modern day technology and social media has influenced peoples ability to find the fulfilment from within and not from external validation?
